Officers of the Bishop Police Department were called to Bishop Middle School regarding threats toward a staff member through social media and text messages.
The incident was investigated and based on the outcome, a 13-year-old suspect who is a student at the school was identified as the person making
threats toward a staff member.
On June 8, 2022, the 13-year-old suspect was arrested and turned over to Inyo County Probation Department for transfer to a secure facility for booking on the charge of making criminal threats.
Chief Standridge would like to assure the citizens of Bishop that the Bishop Police
Department takes threats made against school staff as well as the student body
extremely seriously, and those who make such threats will face the consequences of
their actions. Threats related to the safety and security of school campuses is not a
joke and will not be treated as such.

This kid has been abusing and bullying other students all year (probably longer) while being shielded from consequences by some school staff. What “threats”? Without specifics, why should we believe this? Just because a bureaucrat alleges a threat without reporting what was actually said is no longer sufficient.

Perhaps if we had real juvenile justice in Inyo and Mono counties and real consequences for criminal behaviors, we wouldn’t be experiencing incidents like this, the gang beating of the man in Mammoth, or the beating of the high school student earlier this year, just to name a few. I agree. What a tragic loss that was, and for all the wrong reasons! One of those penny wise, pound foolish decisions. That place turned a lot of kids around. They were able to stay in the community, have some stability and accountability, and get an education. Breaks my heart.… Read more »

Juvenile or no, the full weight of the law should fall on his/her shoulders and that should include jail time. I have to ask: where is this child’s parents?
