Public Service Announcement

As some of you may be aware of the recent issues surrounding the Bishop Paiute Tribe’s Police Department, the following has taken place: The Bishop Paiute Tribal Council has had to make some tough, but warranted decisions regarding the disbandment of our tribal law enforcement department.  The decision was based upon the following: At approximately midnight on Thursday, June 27th, on duty, Tribal Police Officer Nathaniel Caruso was arrested for DUI, Open Container, and Drug Possession in a Tribal Police Vehicle )an unauthorized use of a tribal police vehicle), in the Anaheim, CA area. With the cooperation of the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department of their law enforcement oversight for the Reservation.

The continued safety and well-being of the Bishop Paiute Tribal Community is of the utmost importance to the Bishop Paiute Tribal Council and we will continue to work cooperatively with the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department to ensure coverage until a Tribal Police Department can be restructured.  For any emergencies on the reservation, please call 911.

Respectfully,

Bishop Paiute Tribal Council
