The Bishop Boys Varsity Basketball team travelled to Mammoth Friday night to take on the Huskies in a rematch from last year where the Huskies really pushed us to the limit but we were able to come away with close win.
This year was a lot different, the Broncos came out and showed that they were ready to play. With their good defense and ball movement they jumped out to a good lead up 16-0 at the end of the first quarter. It would be much of the same in the second going into the half with a 31-4 lead. The Broncos would put up 17 in the third, their highest scoring quarter of the game and added 14 in the fourth. They ran away with the game and got the win 62-14.
The leading scorers for the Broncos were Carlos Sualez with 12 points, followed by Sophmore Devaun Mitchell with 10 points, Sophmore Dom Dondero had 9 points, Emory Dondero had 7 points, Chris Charley had 6 points, Sophmore Jakobe Dondero had 5 points, and Charley Lewis and Elijah Reynolds both added 4 points.
The Boys played a really good game Friday, it was led by our defense, a lot of guys played really well on the defensive end, Richie Talavera may not have scored but we rely on him to play tough defense and force turnovers every game, Charley Lewis played a really good game on the defensive end along with distributing the ball to other players for easy baskets. For me Devaun Mitchell and a Dom Dondero really showed that they are getting comfortable at the Varsity level as Sophmores. They both were able to score, play good defense and rebound the ball. Overall a very successful game for us.
The Broncos are now 3-0 in league play going into the Christmas break. The Bronco Boys Varsity will be hosting a home game Friday the 27th at 3 pm against the Templeton Eagles. There will be no admission fee for this game. We would love to have everyone out to help support a really good Bishop team this game. So if you’re able to we would love to see everyone.
I hope you all have a Merry Christmas with your families and friends!
