Bishop BUHS Basketball – BOYS Varsity

The Bishop Boys Basketball team went 2-0 in day 2 of the Serpent Classic in Hawthorne Nevada.  Their first game of the day was against the Smith Valley Bulldogs.  The Broncos were down at the half 24-29 but played a much better second half and outscored the Bulldogs 30-21 and got a hard fought win 54-50.  The Broncos leading scorer was Sophmore Dom Dondero with 12 points, followed by Senior Brady Kalk with 10.  Emory Dondero and Chris Charley both had 8 points, Carlos Sualez and Richie Talavera both had 4 points and Elijah Reynolds chipped in with 2 points.

The Broncos had a 1 game wait and went up against the Yerington Lions for last game of the day.  The Broncos came out a little slow to begin the game not being able to find their rhythm.  But that didn’t last long and they were able to turn it on and really get going with a good run to end the first half with the lead of 27-19.  Second half started the same way.  A little slow but again got it going and pulled away from the Lions with our great defense and execution on offense and ended the game with a 50-35 win.

The boys played a really good game but for me the difference was Junior Carlos Sualez.  He came off the bench and had a huge game leading scoring with 17 and I don’t have an official number for rebounds but my guess is he had 8 rebounds at the least and just played an overall great game and the rest of the boys followed his lead.  Sualez led scoring with 17 followed by Emory Dondero with 13, Chris Charley had 7 points, Dom Dondero with 5, Richie Talavera with 4 Jakobe Dondero and Brady Kalk both with 2 points and Elijah Reynolds with 1 point.

The Broncos are 3-0 so far and will play Saturday against Excel Christian out of Sparks Nevada and close out the weekend against a good looking South Tahoe Vikings team.

Thank you,

Brad Weaver- BUHS Boys Varsity Head Coach
