Summer is in full swing here in the Eastern Sierra, and the beauty of our region is on full display. From the wildflowers carpeting the meadows to the snow-capped peaks reflecting in alpine lakes, it’s a reminder of why we work to protect these lands.

This season, we’ve been hard at work on several exciting projects. We recently completed a restoration effort in the meadows at Conway Ranch, removing invasive plants and restoring native plant communities to improve biodiversity for species like the Bi-State sage grouse.

Our Stewardship Director Emmie is working with landowners and local ranchers to complete our 2024 summer monitoring obligations. Taysir and Dane, two interns from the University of Redlands, have been invaluable assets to our summer monitoring efforts, bringing fresh perspectives and energy to our work.

Additionally, Ziani, our Rangeland Conservationist, is collaborating with producers throughout the Eastern Sierra to advocate for sustainable agricultural practices. These efforts not only support working landscapes and our local economy but also enhance biodiversity crucial to the health of our lands for generations to come. And we’re thrilled to announce our October 26th date for our Fall 2024 Lands & Legacy Dinner at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area’s Parallax Restaurant. It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together, celebrate our shared love for the Eastern Sierra, and support our ongoing conservation work.

We’re also excited to welcome Siobhan Kenney to the ESLT family as our new Operations Director. Her passion and expertise will be a valuable addition to our team. And we extend a warm welcome back to Randy Keller, who has rejoined our board after serving in an emeritus role. His experience and insights will be invaluable as we navigate the opportunities ahead.

None of this work would be possible without your support. Your donations, volunteer hours, and advocacy make a real difference in protecting the lands we all cherish. Thank you for your continued partnership in conservation.

I hope you have the chance to get out and enjoy the Eastern Sierra this summer. Whether you’re hiking, fishing, camping, or simply taking in the views, remember that you’re exploring a landscape that is made more resilient and vibrant thanks to your support.

With Gratitude,

AmySturgillAmy Sturgill
