Sierra Wave Media just got off a webinar with NOAA and they said that this is an unprecedented heat wave that is record-breaking.
We hope to see relief by this Friday, July 12, 2024 but keep in mind that temperatures will still be in the 100’s.
Make smart choices. This is the hottest it has ever been since we’ve been keeping records.

I have issues with the NWS data that is considered “official” data for Bishop. A few years ago there was a claim that Bishop had reached a record high in September, but further research showed that the other 2 weather stations in Bishop, one operated by the Tribe and the other by Great Basin Unified APCD, were significantly lower than the NWS high temperature. I know that both the Tribe and Air Pollution undergo rigorous Quality assurance and control. When I talked to the NWS, they said they do not have the same QA and QC but said that they are still “the official temperature” and appeared to not be concerned with correcting the problem.
Recently, NWS temperature is trending from 4 to 6 degrees higher than the other 2 Bishop monitors. Great Basin’s monitor is across the road from the airport at White Mountain Research station, while the Tribe’s is on TuSu Lane, which could be expected to actually be cooler.
I find this disturbing when so many are concerned with climate change that NWS is not concerned with putting out accurate information.
