Effective Monday, January 10, 2022, Dr. Caryn K. Slack, Mono County Local Health Officer, has ordered the temporary closure of in-person instruction and indoor activities within the Mammoth Unified School District’s (MUSD) Mammoth High School, Mammoth Middle School, Mammoth Elementary School, Sierra High School, Husky Club, Mono County Office of Education’s Inclusive Preschool on the campus of Mammoth Elementary School, and Inyo-Mono Advocates for Community Action Mammoth Head Start Preschool. This closure is in response to a dramatic increase in COVID-19 (Coronavirus) cases, and the resulting impacts on staffing and resources upon local schools.
MUSD facilities will be closed for in-person instruction and indoor activities beginning at 12:01am on Monday, January 10, 2022, and may re-open for in-person instruction and indoor activities as of 11:59 pm on January 28, 2022. This Order does not apply to school-related activities that are conducted outdoors.
“This Order is intended to reduce the likelihood of exposure to COVID-19 in the schools, thereby slowing the spread of COVID-19 in the community and throughout the County,” stated Dr. Slack. “We are experiencing an unprecedented number of cases in Mono County, and with the high volume of students and staff who have been exposed to or infected with COVID-19, and the lack of staff now available to ensure compliance with California Department of Public Health (CDPH) protocol for safe schools, including the testing and monitoring of individuals under modified quarantine, make it unsafe for the school to remain open at this time.”
CDPH issued Public Health Guidance for K-12 Schools in California for the 2021-22 school year, on the foundational principle that all students must have access to safe and full in-person instruction and to as much instructional time as possible. At present, approximately 23% of students and 19% of staff are unable to be physically present within MUSD schools due to illness or quarantine. This drastic shortage of staff restricts the ability of MUSD to ensure compliance with CDPH guidelines. Mono County and MUSD consulted with CDPH on this closure.
For those who need to test, both OptumServe and Mono County Public Health provide COVID-19 testing clinics in Mono County (pending weather-related issues). OptumServe offers testing most Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11am – 7pm in Mammoth Lakes.
Mono County Public Health offers testing in other locations throughout the county at various times throughout the week. While both OptumServe and Mono County Public Health accept walk-ins at their COVID-19 testing clinics, pre-registration is strongly encouraged as walk-ins will only be accommodated pending resource availability. Mono County Public Health will be adding pop-up testing clinics as additional resources become available.

Halloween is over
Literally everything else is wide open, to include our southern border and the ski resort, but our schools are closed.
Something just ain’t adding up.
Sick teachers don’t tend to have much impact on the southern border or ski lifts
Neither do sick grocery store workers but they’re still at work, and for far less compensation.
A quick comparison shows grocery checkers getting $15.00/hr. A 40 hr week x 52 weeks = $31,200/yr. A teacher in Mono County can take $5,000 – $10,000 off that amount.
Do you actually do ANY research?
Grocery store workers make more money than school teachers, are you gonna stick with that one?
You’re aware that minimum wage is $15 as of the first of this year, right?

It’s just some people and most business’ are ignoring the rules,and then whining about those that do.

Go walk through The Village or Vons in Mammoth next Saturday night, or try to walk (in a crosswalk) across 395 on Friday night or on Sunday morning, things ARE wide open, not sure what world you’re living in.

When I mention our southern border I am referring to not just people from all over the world entering our country illegally but drugs, disease, (yes, like covid) too and the reason we need a secure border.
Why is that so difficult for some people to understand?

School is not in session except over a computer – which hardly qualifies for “in session”. The Biden administration agrees. Remedial reading?
Mammoth kids are not IN school, distance learning is not at all the same thing as in-person instruction for many kids.
The kids who are losing the most in this deal are the kids who need in-person instruction the most and they are falling behind, not just in school but in life, it seems they have been forgotten.
Many of them don’t even have desks, they work from their beds and are interrupted and distracted all day. How can anyone not see the difference?
It’s been two years, we’ve learned a lot, we know all the symptoms to look for, we have temp takers, we have vaccines, we have boosters, we have testing, we have all the ppe known to man, we know how to protect ourselves without hiding from the world and just about everybody else is AT WORK, so what makes teachers so different? There are workers out there touching the used linens of complete strangers but a teacher can’t teach in a classroom, really? I ain’t buying it, man.

Yes. That’s how it works. Remember the whole “Vaccines are like 95% effective” thing? Pretty sure no one sane has ever said “The vax makes you immortal”. Just like no one sane has ever said “the vax is a hoax”.
The vast, VAST majority of deaths are from unvaccinated people. And at this point, they’re essentially like people DUI without seatbelts. Sad they made that decision, but not exactly shocked if it ends in tragedy. And anger if they took anyone else with them.

Decisions have consequences. For every day they fail to provide face-to-face schooling, they should refund $742,000 to the taxpayers of Mono County
Oh that’s a good long term strategy – because that money isn’t needed to pay teachers who are still teaching, administrators who will still be making sure the school functions, or other ongoing maintenance and operations costs….
All that money just goes to one fat cat bureaucrat getting rich on the taxpayers dime, sitting back and counting the easy money with his greasy fat cat fingers, laughing with his public health buddies at all the stupid people buying their covid scam while they take the public’s hard-earned monies.

The Ten Planks of Communism was originally conceived in or about 1848 by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engles. Two hundred and thirteen years before that, in early 17th Century America, public education was established (around 1635) started by immigrants who founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
Do the math: The idea of free public education has been around for the last 387 years in this country. Whatever point you think you were making with your comment is absurd.
