Many feel that the revised universal face covering health order with regulatory teeth is long overdue. The hope was that the public would, if not out of respect for the law (and it does have the force of law), wear face coverings out of consideration for the health and safety of others or, if nothing else, common courtesy and civic responsibility.
The lack of enforcement of health orders is a problem seen across the state and across the country. Action, Sadly, without consequences and enforcement, many have chosen to not take the order seriously.
With the rapid upsurge in COVID-19 cases throughout the state, added to many complaints from the public to law enforcement and public health agencies over the lack of enforcement, action is finally being taken by Inyo County. The county hopes to first use positive persuasion, and then, if that doesn’t work, consequences that could result in a business being ordered closed and/or fined can follow. Non-compliance can result in being fined, incarcerated or both.
Inyo County Public Health Officer, Dr. James Richardson, has issued the following, revised health order concerning the wearing of face masks/face coverings:

In the large cities the second lock down is causing small businesses to close permanently, All these business owners are blaming the virus spread on selfish people that did not take the virus seriously and would not wear masks .The business owners blame them for destroying the economy and their livelihoods. So sad now, it is too late. Narcissistic, self-centered, inherently evil, and obtaining thrill in the power of the spread/kill. In our history, these same people have been with us since the beginning, they just keep re-emerging.
Why are travelers still welcome in campgrounds and hotels that have been the majority of the problem. Seems like they are making the case easy to close them
Will not comply and the sheriff is very smart not to enforce. An order by one person is not a law. The DA also knows that he could not find a jury to convict.
And this is why we can’t beat Covid. There’s too much pride.

It’s more doing as they’re being told to do by who they support politically.
If trump were to start wearing a mask,and telling his supporters to wear one,taking it serious and not so nonchalant about the virus,believing it’s a problem that isn’t “just going to go away”,like he says it will,you’d see them also wearing a mask.
But that ain’t going to happen,because if he did,it would be him admitting to a mistake he made by not doing and saying it much earlier.

If you’re unwilling to contribute to the effort to slow the spread of this virus please just stay at home 24/7.
It might as easily be said that you should “just stay home 24/7” if you prefer to live in fear of a virus with a mortality rate that continues to decrease toward that of the ordinary flu per latest CDC statistics. And those statistics assume no one is immune, contrary to recent studies from Germany and Sweden that anywhere from 30%-80% of the population already has T-cell immunity from exposure to other corona viruses over the years. These are evidence-based facts Charles, not a collection of sad anecdotes or scientifically unsupported assertions by public health officials with CYA attitudes.
What I’d “prefer” is for all of us to get back to normal sooner rather than later. That’s why I’m willing to follow the simple guidelines established by the many public health experts throughout our country. You can and others can discount the actual experts all you like. But continue to I’ll listen to them over self appointed message board experts like yourself.
It’s not as though anybody will accuse you of cowardice for wearing a mask, but you give pretty good reason for anyone who wants to be careful to be afraid of you.

Yet other German studies show 1.3% immunity for their overall population, and some studies are showing immunity doesn’t last. So you’re cherry picking to support your position like some public health officials with CYA attitudes. Most of these studies are limited in scope and the researchers aren’t claiming they have found universal truths, just finding another piece of the puzzle.
Mortality rates aren’t the only thing to worry about. The flu can have long lasting effects. Increase in strokes and heart attacks, secondary infections, etc. Many people that recovered from polio don’t have secondary symptoms until they show up years later.

Everyone’s future is tied to the covid pandemic. Whether you are young or old it is a simple act of community to wear the mask. It is not rocket science . It is the one most important primary things, maybe the only thing , we can do to keep our community safe and manageable if there are unknowing asymptomatic infected folks who might spread the virus. Along with testing and contract tracing and the isolation of those folks possibly infected, these are the only tools we currently have to keep the pandemic at bay until we get a vaccine. Have to totally agree with Charles O. Well I see Dr. Richardson is alive and well after all. I was wondering if Inyo County even had a Public Health Officer anymore. Thank goodness for Mono County and Dr. Boo for keeping Inyo citizens informed.
When is the Public Health Officers next election?
Public Health Officers in California are appointed by local governments; they are not elected. The Brief Overview, Understanding County Health Services in California, from the Institute for Local Government, might be helpful.
I’ll take this as a sarcastic question.
Is that really what you want, our public health and other governmental experts to fall under the same political pressures as our elected officials? I don’t. I would rather our experts give us their guidance and honest opinions without regard to politics or elections.

It is my opinion that threats of punishment and or imprisonment by Richardson will only challenge the public’s right to freedom of choice. It certainly does irritate me. Some of his criteria are poorly defined.
An example : Item 1 what is an “enclosed open space”?
Must I now carry a tape measure to ensure the 6 ft rule?
How will this all be enforced?
How can the police prove that the 6 ft rule was violated ? Are we now required to use individual scanning devices?
This is all another example of a power (Richardson) attempting to impose his otherwise unfulfilled ego upon others with more confidence
If that’s what it takes you to maintain a 6 foot distance from others, then yes John, you need to not only carry that tape measure but know how to use it also.
It’s not about your ludicrous false perception about anyone’s ego, power. To proclaim one’s confidence makes it OK to put others at risk is in the realm of the absurd. It’s about public health and safety measures during a global pandemic. Nothing more or less.
