RESULTS OF LABOR DAY WEEKEND
MAXIMUM ENFORCEMENT PERIOD
California Highway Patrol (CHP) Bridgeport Area officers participated in a Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) over the Labor Day Holiday weekend. The MEP began Friday, August 29, 2014 at 6:00 P.M. and continued through Monday, September 1, 2014 at 11:59 P.M. During this period, CHP Bridgeport officers arrested four drivers for driving while under the influence (DUI) of alcohol, while statewide officers arrested 1,168 drivers for DUI.
There were 45 fewer DUI arrests made this year compared to the same weekend in 2013. While statewide arrests were down, CHP Bridgeport Area arrests were double that of last Labor Day weekend. The arrests are notable in that each driver’s preliminary blood alcohol content was very high. Three of the drivers that were arrested were apprehended because motorists driving in Mono County called the CHP using 9-1-1 to report the suspected DUI drivers. Those citizens were concerned enough to call 9-1-1 and may have helped save someone’s life.
A total of 27 people were killed in collisions statewide, in all CHP jurisdictions, during this Labor Day weekend MEP, compared with 25 killed during the same weekend last year. Of the 27 killed statewide, 25 were occupants in vehicles, and two were motorcyclists. Despite all of the public education that occurs regarding the use of seatbelts, 13 of the vehicle occupants that were killed during the weekend were not wearing their seatbelts. No pedestrians were killed in CHP jurisdictions over the holiday weekend.

Mr or Ms abobthenabob,
Could you point out where I said that Mono County LEOs are not what you say they are? No? -Yeah – that’s right – I didn’t say anything of the kind – but go ahead and profile me based on something you have made up – isn’t that what all the poor burners have been whining about?
Hypocrisy much?
mono county local:
You are correct; you do not say that explicitly; I inferred that from what appeared to be your defense of the MCSO. I apologize for that presumption.
Thanks.
I’ve lived in this county for long enough to know that Mono Co LE does indeed pick and choose which laws they want to enforce and they sometimes appear to be somewhat confused about who is the perp and who is the victim and what the problem really is. I also saw the personal FB page of one Sargent who posted an image suggesting violence against “hippies”. I put a candidates sign on my property for the first time ever for Ingrid Braun. But all the victim rhetoric spewed by the burners who violated the laws and got caught shows that they are deficient in the ability to put on the big boy (or girl) pants and take responsibility for their own actions despite all the “self reliance” and other jargon. Poseurs. Hypocrites. Worthy of laughter and little else.
we use our senses to begin to put what we are experiencing into a category according to past experience – one of the ways we categorize is by appearance – call it whatever you wish but if you are not doing this you are probably dead and if you claim you don’t do this you are lying
mono county local:
Fair enough.
But if the MCSO gets to profile or “categorize” people based only on their appearance and the officer’s “past experience,” then you should have no objection to some of us “categorizing” or profiling MCSO officers as lawless thugs based on their appearance and our PAST EXPERIENCE.
You can’t have it both ways.
Thanks.
I just have to say you are absolutely right!
Please remember they only emulate what their leaders do. That is where all the problems stem from.
Perhaps that’s where the disconnect occurs. I have had nothing but positive experiences in my encounters with MCSD as well as most other law enforcement agencies for that matter. The few times I have been cited over the years – I deserved it.
Living within the law and maintaining a respectful attitude towards LEO’s can go a long way towards having positive encounters with the cops. Conversely, doing the opposite can almost ensure negative encounters. If the tone of your post is indicative of your behavior towards the cops then I can understand how might see their less tolerant side.
I’m a Grateful Dead man myself, I know when people stereotype others.
saw several burners – one had driven off the road at Devil’s Gate early Monday morning, uhaul truck towing a trailer
but really, I think it is quite hilarious that a whole bunch of people would drive out of their way because they were all pissy that people would be thrown in jail for breaking the law –
it not about breaking any Law or Laws’,
It about being stereotyped and harassed our local LE.
No, mono county local, the burners are not being “pissy.”
They are simply being wise.
Just like those who don’t walk down a dark alley in a bad part of town, the burners don’t go through Mono County in order to avoid getting mugged by a bunch of lawless, bullying goons.
Thanks.
For some Mono is out of their way and they prefer the beautiful drive to easier routes. Having your stuff thrown on the ground in a search that finds nothing doesn’t make innocent people want to come back.
I’ve seen tons of Burners here in Bishop. They spend money just like every visitor who comes through here. Not sure if they came down Hwy 395 or Hwy 6 though.
What? No Burners?
The burners avoided Inyo and Mono counties. I saw very few travelling through, compared to hundreds in years past. I guess they did get the word out. Amazing.
I know I did my part to help get the word out and to help them avoid harassment by MCSD.
That is because Obe doesn’t care about his stats anymore. The people have spoken by the vote and they don’t want his harassing, unconstitutional type of law enforcement! Actually the never did the BOS forced that down our throats!
I hear he is going back to being a Manager at McDonald’s. Look out all employees of Inyo and Mono Counties he is coming to haunt you next! Glad McDonald’s has more money than Mono County does.A word to the wise,,,find new employment quick!
I actually saw quite a few. Several in the ML Von’s parking lot and a number more along the 395 in the OV. They seem to wear the that white dust like a badge of honor or something. A quick shower and rinse of the car in Reno might make them a little less obvious to law enforcement, not mention a bit more comfortable for the drive home. Didn’t see any pulled over by the cops though.
Oh The Playa dust? That means they left Black Rock City.
Why wash off the war paint if you have no reason to get pulled over ?
Stereotype much ?
It’s just some practical advice, that’s all. Profiling is a fact of life, always has been and always will be. And it’s certainly not limited to Mono/Inyo Counties. Do we live in a perfect world? Absolutely not. Can you honestly say that you’ve NEVER made assumptions about others in your life? If you say you haven’t then I’d say your not being honest. The reality is if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, there’s a possibility it just might be a duck. To pretend that our world somehow sees things otherwise is just foolish. And if you’d prefer not to garner the attention of LE, it just makes sense to not solicit their attention with your “war paint”.
