NEWS RELEASE – MLPD
On Sunday night at approximately 11:15 pm, Mammoth Lakes Police Officers were dispatched to the Vons Pharmacy in Mammoth Lakes for a report of a burglary in progress.
Upon arrival, a Vons employee told officers that she was contacted by a customer who was a witness to the crime. The customer saw someone attempting to break into the pharmacy, and then climb onto the roof. Upon arrival, MLPD officers searched the rooftop but did not locate any suspects.
The officers then made entry into the building after discovering an open exterior window. During a search of the business, officers discovered that an unknown suspect forced entry into the interior of the pharmacy. Officers also discovered that the suspect attempted to force open the cash register. Although it is clear that a quantity of prescription medication was stolen, the full loss will not be known until a complete inventory is completed.
After reviewing the surveillance video, officers obtained the following description of the suspect. A person of unknown gender wearing a dark hooded jacket or sweatshirt with the hood pulled over the suspect’s head and a red scarf or bandana covering their face, ‘skinny jeans’, light colored gloves and grey tennis shoes. The suspect was about 5’08” and appeared to have a thin build. The suspect was seen on the surveillance video carrying a large amount of medication out of the pharmacy.
Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to contact the Mammoth Lakes Police Department and speak with Detective Doug Hornbeck or Sergeant Marc Moscowitz.

and cigarettes
And caffeine. Lots and lots and lots of caffeine.
yeah, Dingo, that’s right….the only reason a person is thin or can wear skinny jeans is if they are a drug addict….sheesh, some people make really stupid assumptions.
The question I have is what was the Mammoth Police’s response time? Was this a time with limited officers on duty? Sunday night at 11:15 in October should be a fairly quiet time.
I also wonder why the witness didn’t dial 911, it would’ve given MLPD a better chance of catching the woman, who apparently moves pretty quickly!
I do agree that prescription pills are a bigger threat to our society then most (but not all) illegal drugs. It’s too bad we turn a blind eye to the negative effects of the legal drugs while wasting so many resources on less harmful illegal ones. And let’s not forget the most harmful drug of all, alcohol!
Does this pharmacy not have an alarm? And the drugs are not secured in a locked, hardened area? Some ninja cat burglar wearing skinny jeans snuck in an open window? You can’t make this stuff up. Glad Von’s spent the $4 mil wisely on the remodel. Good job Von’s!
“skinny jeans”…”thin build” because he/she eats prescription drugs for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Something is wrong in our society when prescription drugs are as available like they are,
or as quoted from a police officer “passed out like candy”.
How much of our tax dollars are being spent purchasing and then fighting illegal use and possession of prescription drugs?
You pointed out a hypocrisy that runs rampant in our daily society, the hypocrisy of how people will look down on those with problem’s with illegal drugs, convict and prosecute, but then you have legal dangerous drugs in abundance that are pushed upon us like they are safer and should be accepted.
We can’t always stop a individual who wants to put themselves and those around them at risk for their own narrow minded interests, but we shouldn’t choose to be ignorant to the fact some of these drug problems we have in society are perpetuated and reinforced by the approaches within the status quo.
Addiction is a complicated topic, but addiction isn’t genetic, that’s a myth! and the idea that drugs are addictive is also a myth!
not everybody who uses drugs becomes a addict, but some do.. not everybody becomes a food addict, but some do… not everybody becomes a shopaholic, but some do, the real question is what makes people susceptible to addicted behavior? What happened in their life? One of the main indicators of what makes people susceptible to addictions are the social environments of which we were born into, developed into, and grown into, for example abuse, neglect or abandonment to a developing baby/child can trigger or un-trigger certain brain developments…..
And when you talk to hardcore addicts they are mostly just trying to fill in the emptiness on the inside from the outside or just take the pain away…
Love thy Neighbor!
I wish I could get more rebuttals rather a thumbs down, but I guess this is what I get when I play in the sand box and continue to throw dirt in peoples eyes….
The main point I am trying to make is combating those people in the name of the war on drugs is counter productive to society when as a child a lot of them have been abused in the first place.
Nobody wants to play with me, I promise I won’t call foul anymore….LOL
You aren’t getting any rebuttals because your comments are LAME.
Drug addiction is a myth you say? You have no idea of what you are talking about. You clearly have zero education on how the brain works and or how different drugs effect various parts of the brain in different ways.
My guess is you are ON DRUGS when writing your comments.
