Partying and peaceful living sometimes just don’t jive. Some condo residents in the North Village in Mammoth Lakes say that’s the case with the Hyde Lounge and its loud music from 10pm to 2am. Mammoth Mountain CEO Rusty Gregory has been dealing with this issue.
Gregory said he has talked to one particular resident for more than a year. He said the music does comply with the local noise ordinance but that the vibrations and noise are transmitted through columns in the structure at North Village. Even though the noise level is not illegal, Gregory said “We acknowledge that the noise is a problem and it’s something we’re working on in earnest.” Mammoth Mountain brought in sound engineers which worked for some residents but not for all.
Now, Gregory says, he’s contemplating use of the Hyde space as a family restaurant instead. Noise, he said, is a small part of the reason. Gregory says he is focusing on families as a market segment and a restaurant that would offer lunches and apres ski. Gregory said the empty space that used to be Auld Dubliner and Fever would be designed for a new club. He said he is working with the partners at SBE which own Hyde. The idea would translate into a restaurant/ bar and live music.
Said Gregory, “This would create jobs, a better experience for families, plus evening entertainment. The Hyde, he said, may stay where it is. The CEO said that Mammoth and SBE are engaged in a joint venture but some of the new concepts may solve problems, he said. The Village, said Gregory, “is an animated urban space. Not every corner is peaceful and quiet. It’s not for everybody.”

The Village was sold as, “the new center of gravity of Mammoth Lakes” and as a, “European Village”.
Also — people live there????
Was the music there before the residents moved in, if so .. they knew going in … if not, then they have a complaint, seems stupid to but a club which plays loud music until 2 Am in or within close proximity to a residential area.
But where in Mammoth are you going to put it where you won’t piss someone off? lol
No that was vacant. That village was the of the end of mammoth. Hyde SUCKED plastic glasses? Really………
PMack, the glasses were plastic after 10PM so that they wouldn’t be dropped on the floor and create a hazard. If you came in before 10, you were served in glass. But, you would know that if you ever visited Hyde. And, the space may not have been filled when they purchased but it was always zoned for restaurant/nightlife space. So, if they didn’t know about it, it was because they chose not to inform themselves prior to purchasing it. It was no secret.
Great, one of the few restaurant/bars I know where the employees are actually doing OK…so let’s shut it down??? people bought in the village knowing that it was a hot spot for activity…deal with it…Mammoth is so lame at the ‘late night’ stuff…heaven forbid you want to eat after 9:00 pm summer or winter…we want to be ‘world class’ but we want to be in bed by 10:00!!!
I don’t think it’s decided to shut it down. Rusty’s comments seem that he and SBE are exploring a live music place
in the vacant Auld Dubliner and Fever.
Benett
I think this is the place I was doing a Dish Net install near-by, and a couple of drunk guys smelling like weed came up and asked me if I would give them some money.
…at 11 O’Clock in the morning……
Hmm..must have come from Laka seeing as how Hyde isn’t open at 11am.

In other words If you don’t like the music sell your “worthless condo” and get out
Hey Rusty- shut up !
