MONO COUNTY — Caltrans will reopen the Crestview Safety Roadside Rest Area this Sunday following an extended winter closure. The rest area, which is approximately eight miles north of the junction of U.S. 395 and State Route 203 (Mammoth Lakes), originally closed for the season on December 12, 2021.

With this opening, Caltrans would like to remind motorists to properly dispose of their trash when using the Crestview Rest Area. The rest area sits within a wilderness area that often sees strong winds. Any trash that is not properly disposed of may blow into the woods and attract wildlife. Caltrans District 9 has scheduled regular trash pick-ups for the Crestview Rest Area, but if the spring and summer travel season is exceptionally busy, it may not be able to keep up with trash removal. If you arrive at the rest area and find the available dumpsters completely full, we ask that you please hold on to your trash until you reach the next rest area or gas station.

For the latest information on rest area availability, road closures, and other conditions on the California State Highway System, please visit the Caltrans QuickMap site at quickmap.dot.ca.gov or download the app to your smartphone. You can also call the Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
