More transit service this winter in Mammoth Lakes. Mammoth’s Tourism and Recreation Department in partnership with Eastern Sierra Transit Authority, the Town of Mammoth, the Ski Area and the Mammoth Mobility Commission have invited everyone to a transit system kick-off event.

The whole idea – to make Mammoth a resort that allows visitors to park their cars, walk and take buses to get around. This helps since parking remains scarce in Mammoth Lakes. The Village problems continue and many businesses have bailed out. Parking is a problem there. Mammoth Mountain Ski Area CEO Rusty Gregory has said that he believes the issues will be resolved.

Meanwhile, more transit ahead. Officials say their winter Mammoth Transit system Kick-Off Event will happen at Lakanuki in the Village on Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. If you go there, you can see large scale maps of the expanded winter transit service, talk with transit planners and collect 2009 winter Mammoth Transit Maps.

Additions to winter service this year include an extension of the MID-TOWN LIFT to the South Gateway Apartments. The schedule also includes the Evening Hospitality Shuttle and Apres Ski Shuttle Bus. The winter transit service will start November 21st, depending on the Ski Area’s winter operations.
