For those who may want to hear officials talk about the Department of Water and Power’s pumping plans for the year, this issue will come up Monday at a special meeting of the Inyo Supervisors.
The Thursday Water Commission meeting planned for that discussion had to be canceled because of concerns about legal posting for the meeting. The Water Department did post that Thursday agenda on the door of the Big Pine Library, but it was inadvertently moved inside. Water Director Bob Harrington said there is a 24-hour noticing requirement in a “publicly accessible place.” There is currently no plan for another Water Commission meeting.
The Inyo Supervisors scheduled a special meeting for Monday at 9am in Independence. The agenda says the Board will go into closed session immediately for an evaluation of the Director of the Water Department. The DWP pumping issue is the second one under departmental items after that closed session. Inyo and LADWP will hold a Technical Group meeting on or before May 9th to discuss pumping.
In other items before the Supervisors on Monday, the County Administrator will ask the Board to approve a three-year Memorandum of Understanding with the Deputy Sheriff’s Association. The CAO will also ask for approval of an agreement with William Avery & Associates to recruit for a new County Counsel following current Counsel Randy Keller’s retirement. The cost will not exceed $27,000. The Board will also meet in closed session to talk about appointment of a County Counsel.

Wake up Owens Valley, ranchers in the western U.S. are experiencing a 25% reduction in irrigation due to the drought. It’s time to get real, like it or not.
Common Sense,
Respectfully…
What are we waking up to, is it???
That we are insignificant compared to the diversion of the Colorado River?
That we are a small part of a huge global problem?
That there is nothing we can do so we should give up?
Do you have special knowledge to share with us?
You have our ear; could you please be specific as to what it is that we are waking up to?
Thanks.

People with concerns regarding diminished water for the Ranchers and the enhancement/mitigation projects should let the Board know of their concerns. They have some tough decisions to make with regards to an agreement with the DWP requested water reductions that would put a world of hurt on our Valley.
Where can we find the backup documentation for the meeting? There’s none on the county website.
If there is any back-up material, Pat Gunsolley, Board Clerk, can provide it. 760-878-0373. If you are looking for the water operations plan,
it might be on Inyo Water Department website.

The pumping plan?
For the Owens Valley to survive it needs water,
Is that even part of the plan?
It’s time for a new plan!
