Best Western Sign in Bishop

“Wherever life takes you, Best Western is there.”

Best Western Hotels have a slogan that says, “Wherever life takes you, Best Western is there.” If life took you through downtown Bishop yesterday (Sat., Dec. 12), you might have had to take a detour. High winds yesterday threatened to blow down the Best Western Bishop Lodge sign on Main Street.

Caltrans District 9 posted on their Facebook page that “southbound traffic in Bishop near the Best Western was being diverted to one northbound lane as crews work to remove a fallen street sign.” Later there was an update from CalTrans stating that, “The right-hand lane and sidewalk near the Best Western on U.S. Hwy 395 in Bishop will remain closed into Sunday.”

Fortunately, no one had a Best Western sign land on top of their vehicle or land in their hopefully-would-have-been-empty passenger seat which, if nothing else, would prove that no matter where your “life takes you, Best Western is there, ” either sitting atop or inside your vehicle…which, again, fortunately did-not-happen.

Best Western Sign in Bishop backs up traffic 1

Traffic was reportedly “backed up,” according to some drivers. Detours were provided by Caltrans to go around the problem area.

Traffic on Main Street was reportedly “backed up” quite a bit.

We can safely assume that Best Western is all over getting that sign fixed or replaced. Unfortunately, they can’t control the often extremely high winds that occasion our Eastern Sierra communities. The last thing that Best Western wants to have happen is that “Wherever life takes you, it could have ended here.”
