Forecast Discussion – Fri Jul 05 2024

I hope you all had a nice 4th of July, albeit on the warm side, where Bishop topped out at 104°.

So what’s causing this long duration heatwave? We have an intense high pressure dome (597dm) sitting over CA / NV, with a strong lateral ridge stretching across the Southern CONUS. It’s sandwiched between a trough over the Gulf of Alaska and a trough over the Midwest. Because of this, that large high pressure is unable to move. The result, a prolonged heat wave lasting thru much of next week. This weekend may very well be record challenging or record breaking for many locations in the Eastern Sierra. Please take proper precautions, as heat impacts will only worsen day-by-day. Take it easy, stay safe, stay cool and have a great “Go Do It” weekend…DMATT
