1. Walking Water Opening Ceremony: “In Celebration of Water”

Date: Tuesday, September 1st
Time: 9:00–10.30am
Location: Cattleguard Campground, Lee Vining, California

Description: Opening Ceremony and Tribal welcome with members of the Mono Lake Kutzadika Tribe.

Additional welcome from other local community representatives, including of local tribes: Caroline Stone, Lucy Parker, Alan Bacock, water coordinator of Big Pine Paiute Tribe & Kathy Bancroft, member of Lone Pine Paiute Tribe and Tribal Historic Preservation Officer

2. The Path of Walking Water

Date: Tuesday, September 1st
Time: 7–9pm
Location: Mono Basin Outdoor Education Center, Lee Vining

Description: Over the next three years, Walking Water will trace a pathway from Mono Lake to Los Angeles, weaving a water story through the complex reality of water. This evening will offer context and understanding for the path.

With: Andy Lipkis, founder and President of TreePeople, working toward a sustainable and thriving Los Angeles; David Carle, long-time Mono Lake Committee member and author of many books about water in California including Water and the Californian Dream; Kathy Bancroft, member of Lone Pine Paiute Tribe and Tribal Historic Preservation Officer; Mark Drew, Regional Manager for the Eastern and Northern Sierra regions of CalTrout, and others. Convened by Kate Bunney, Walking Water Coordinator.

3. Water Stories, Past, Present and Future

Date: Thursday, September 10th
Time: 7:30-9:30 pm
Location: Owens Valley Paiute Shoshone Cultural Center, Bishop, CA

Description: Water stories consist of many interwoven stories, here in the Owens Valley and around the world: tribal history, migration, development, settlement, water rights, land management, and more. Through the medium of story, we will take a look at the current realities, and at some examples where water has been part of struggles and unity. How do we contribute to a future that is for something and what do our young people need from us to do that?

Roundtable discussion with:
Alan Bacock, water coordinator for the Big Pine Paiute Tribe; Daniel Pritchett, member of the Owens Valley Committee and conservation chair of the Bristlecone Chapter of CNPS for 15 years; Harry Williams, activist and member of the Bishop Paiute Tribe; Teri Red Owl, Director of the Owens Valley Indian Water Commission

4. Around the World of Water: Thinking Local and Global

Date: Saturday, September 19th
Time: 6-9pm
Location: Lone Pine Paiute Community Center

Description: Cultural presentation by the Lone Pine Tribal Youth program will open the evening at 6pm followed by potluck dinner. Evening roundtable of water stories from around the world to follow. What are the world water stories, and how is the Owens Valley part of that?

Roundtable With:
Alan Bacock, water coordinator for the Big Pine Paiute Tribe; Kathy Bancroft, member of Lone Pine Paiute Tribe and Tribal Historic Preservation Officer; Sabine Lichtenfels, co-founder of Tamera peace research center in Portugal; Marcela Olivera (TBC), a water commons organizer and key international liaison for the Coalition for the Defense of Water and Life, Cochabamba, Bolivia; Mike Prather, Board member of Friends of the Inyo and Chair of the Inyo County Water Commission; Rajendra Singh, water specialist working with local rural communities in India and more.

5. Walking Water Community Days

Date: Saturday, September 19th

Time: 8am
Location: Owenyo area, northeast of Lone Pine (contact us for exact location) to Lone Pine Paiute Community Center

Date: Sunday, September 20th
Time: 8am

Location: Lone Pine Paiute Community Center to Owens Lake

Description: Local community members are invited to join with Walking Water for a day, to walk with us, share story and celebrate the beauty of water and the Owens Valley.

Please bring own food for picnic lunch.

6. Walking Water Closing Ceremony

Date: Tuesday, September 22nd (TBC – May be 21st)
Time: 9am (TBC)
Location: Owens Lake (exact location TBD)
Description: Walking Water Closing with members of the Lone Pine Paiute tribe and others (TBD)

7. Evening concert with Bonnie Tamblyn and the Blue Heaven Band

Date: Tuesday, September 22nd
Time: 6pm and into the evening
Location: Owens Valley Growers Cooperative, Independence

Description: This evening concert will be a celebration for the community to enjoy the completion of Phase I of Walking Water.

Cost: $10 suggested donation (additional funds and gifts will go towards Walking Water Phase II)

Food and drink will be available for purchase onsite.
