 U.S. Highway 395 Reopens from Wildfire Closure

 MONO COUNTY —Caltrans and CHP have reopened U.S. Highway 395 in Mono County from Emigrant Street in Bridgeport to the Nevada State Line. The road was previously closed due to a wildfire in the area that had evacuated the town of Walker, and the areas surrounding Walker.

(Nov. 17, 2020) MONO COUNTY —U.S. Highway 395 in Mono County Due remains closed from Emigrant Street in Bridgeport to the Nevada State Line due to a wildfire in Walker Canyon. The fire (Mountain View Fire) has reached 20,800 plus acres and claimed eighty structures.

Don’t forget the snow chains if coming to the Eastern Sierra!

It is unclear how long this section of the highway will be closed. Drivers heading northbound on U.S. Hwy 395 should detour to either U.S. Hwy 6 just north of Bishop to NV360 to US 95 or State Route 182 in Bridgeport to Nevada 338. Southbound traffic from Nevada should detour to U.S. Hwy 95 to NV360 to U.S. Hwy 6 or Nevada 208 to Nevada 338 to State Route 182.

Caltrans and CHP have issued R1 chain controls on several state highway roads:

US 395            1 mile south of SR 203 to 7 miles south of Lee Vining

7 miles north of Lee Vining to 1.5 miles south of Bridgeport

3 miles north of Bridgeport to 14 miles south of Nevada State Line

SR 203            From the junction at U.S. Hwy 395 to Mammoth Mountain Inn

SR 168W         From Aspendell to 12 miles west of Bishop

SR 167            From the junction at U.S. Hwy 395 to the Nevada State Line

SR 158S          From the junction at U.S. Hwy 395 to 3.5 miles north of the June Lake Village

SR 108            From the junction at U.S. Hwy 395 to 3.8 miles west of the junction at U.S. Hwy 395 (at the USMC Entry Gate) State Route 14 southbound closure is still in place.

Big rig is being righted. Detour at Backus to Sierra Highway or Tehachapi Willow Springs.

The High-Profile Prohibition has been lifted and replaced with a High Wind Advisory on U.S. Hwy 395 from the Kern/Inyo county line to the Nevada State Line. High profile vehicles are not recommended.
