U.S. 395 to Remain Closed Tonight Between State Route 203 and State Route 158 MONO COUNTY – U.S. 395 will remain closed tonight between State Route 203 near Mammoth Lakes to the southern junction with State Route 158 (June Lake Loop) due to whiteout conditions. Caltrans maintenance crews still need to remove feet of snow and abandoned vehicles from the roadway in the aftermath of the snowstorm earlier this week before the road can reopen to the public.
Crews reopened U.S. 395 from Gorge Road near Bishop to State Route 203 this morning, and later the stretch from State Route 158 to State Route 182 in Bridgeport. U.S. 6 in Bishop remains open as an alternative route, connecting travelers to Nevada Route 95. Chain controls are still in effect for much of Mono County.
Because visibility is limited and roads are slick, we ask that all drivers slow down and allow themselves plenty of time to reach their destinations safely. Caltrans also reminds drivers to move over for Caltrans crews, CHP, and other emergency vehicles. If you come across a snowplow on the highway, give yourself enough space to keep yourself and our snowplow operators safe. To assist in planning your commute, view live traffic conditions using QuickMap at http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/.
