Eastern Sierra Council of Governments board at a past meeting.

Inyo and Mono officials will sit down for two meetings on Friday. They will deal with local issues like the fairgrounds, economic development, transit,  and Reds Meadow.

The Eastern Sierra Council of Governments will meet Friday at 9am in Suite Z in Mammoth Lakes.  They will first talk about their own legislative platform.  Supervisor Linda Arcularius will update the council on the Sierra Nevada Conservancy.  Inyo County Administrator Kevin Carunchio will speak to the Tri-County Fairgrounds.  Mono Supervisor Byng Hunt has an item on economic development strategies.

Then, at 11:30am, the Board of Directors of the Eastern Sierra Transit Authority will meet in the same location.  On their agenda, information from the Forest Service and action and plans now underway toward the 2012 opening of the Reds Meadow area. A severe wind storm in November toppled thousands of trees in that area.  The Forest Service and others have already worked to clear the road into Reds Meadow and to plan for how to deal with hazard trees and the many other downed trees in the popular site.

The ESTA agenda also includes an action item to prepare a proposal to submit to the Forest Service that requests a Special Use Permit for the operation of the Reds Meadow Shuttle service.

The ESTA board will also talk about possible promotions to help increase ridership in Bishop.  The agenda calls it a Bishop ridership and fare revenue analysis.  The agenda also includes financial statements, a bi-annual service review in the two counties, and a demonstration of ESTA’s new website.
