Save the Date and Time: Thursday, February 18, 2021 6:30pm on Zoom
INYO350 is pleased to present a Virtual Talk (over Zoom) by local authors and world travelers David and Janet Carle. Former state park rangers, the Carles will present the story of their around-the-world journey in search of water-related environmental and cultural intersections along the 38th parallel.
They crossed Japan, Korea, China, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Greece, Sicily, Spain, Portugal, the Azores, and the US from Chesapeake Bay to San Francisco Bay. They documented their journey in their book Travelling the 38th Parallel, A Water Line Around the World. This book was the winner of the 2020 International Book Awards in the Travel Category.
The 38th North parallel marks a temperate, middle latitude where human societies have thrived since the beginning of civilization. In their book the Carles documented devastating environmental losses but also inspiring gains made through the efforts of dedicated individuals working against the odds to protect fragile places, like Mono Lake.
