CHP Officers report a tragic accident on the Highway.

According to the Highway Patrol, 80 year old Bishop Resident Elaine Marland died as a result of injuries she received in a car accident last week. Thursday afternoon at about 3:40, Marland pulled off Sunland Drive onto 395 in a green Dodge Stratus sedan. A white Lincoln driven by Lone Pine resident David Haas was headed southbound on 395 at about 60 mph, when Marland pulled into the intersection.

Officers say that the driver of the Lincoln tried to brake but couldn’t avoid the collision. The green Dodge was hit in the drivers side door. The Bishop Volunteer Fire Fighters and Symons Ambulance crews worked to remove the damaged door to free the injured driver. The driver, Elaine Marland, later succumbed to her injuries.
