Traffic Advisory for the Week of March 24, 2025
EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of March 24 – March 28.
Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.
New Traffic Impacts
Eastern Kern County
· Mojave Barrier Repair – On State Route 14 just south of the southern junction with Business Route 58, the inside lane in both directions and median will close 24 hours a day while crews repair concrete barriers and guardrail cushions. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.
· Cameron Canyon Pole Replacement – On State Route 58 near Cameron Canyon Road east of Tehachapi, the eastbound outside lane and shoulder will close while utility crews replace a pole on Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Inyo County
· North Sierra Highway Utility Relocation – On the southbound shoulder of U.S. 395 between Barlow Lane and Tu Su Lane in Bishop, utility crews will relocate infrastructure Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
· Bishop Overnight Conductor Transfer – On U.S. 395 from Matlick Lane to Tu-Su Lane, utility crews will transfer infrastructure over the road overnight on Thursday from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am. There will be intermittent traffic breaks and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
Mono County
· Bridgeport Pole Replacement – On U.S. 395 from Jack Sawyer Road to State Route 182, utility crews will replace poles on Wednesday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
Ongoing Traffic Impacts
Eastern Kern County
· Tehachapi Pole Replacement – On State Route 202 (Tucker Road) near Sierra Vista Drive, utility crews will replace a pole on Saturday, March 22, from 8:45 am to 2:00 pm.
· Kern County Lighting Replacements Project – Crews are installing light poles at:
· State Route 58 at the westbound Boron Avenue off-ramp,
· State Route 58 at the westbound Tehachapi Boulevard on-ramp,
· State Route 58 at the eastbound California City Boulevard on-ramp, and
· U.S. 395 at the northbound off-ramp to State Route 178 E.
Trenching work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Other activities are scheduled overnight Monday through Friday from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am.
Inyo County
· Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Project – Construction continues on the Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Expressway Project. Northbound drivers will encounter two traffic switches on the new lanes of U.S. 395 and traffic remains limited to one lane in each direction through the northern half of the project area. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph through the project area and 45 mph through the two traffic switches.
· Badwater Road Paving – On State Route 190 from a half mile west of Badwater Road to a half mile east in Death Valley National Park, crews will continue to conduct one-way traffic control for paving work on Badwater Road Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Drivers may experience 20-minute delays.
The Olancha Cartago 4-Lane Project received $38.3 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA) – also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Under IIJA, California will receive an estimated $41.9 billion over five years. IIJA provides significant funding to rebuild California’s transportation system, including support to improve roadways, bridges, freight projects, public transportation, infrastructure safety enhancements, and to increase infrastructure resiliency to the impacts of severe weather and climate change.
