Traffic Advisory for the Week of January 20, 2025

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of January 20 – January 24.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

New Traffic Impacts

Inyo County

• Buttermilk Road Wire Crossing – On State Route 168 W from Buttermilk Road to E. Bishop Creek Road near Bishop, utility crews will cross wire over the highway on Wednesday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 5-minute delays.
• West Bishop Wire Crossing – On State Route 168 W from Pa Me Lane to Brockman Lane, utility crews will pull wire across the highway on Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be intermittent traffic breaks and drivers may experience brief delays.

Mono County

• Lee Vining Pole Replacement – On U.S. 395 at Mattly Avenue in Lee Vining, utility crews will replace a pole on Wednesday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. There will be intermittent traffic breaks and drivers may experience brief delays.

Ongoing Traffic Impacts

Eastern Kern County

• China Lake Water Main Replacement – On State Route 178 E between N. Brady Street and N. Victor Street, the westbound outside lane and shoulder will close intermittently while crews replace signs Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
• Ridgecrest Sidewalks – On State Route 178 E between South Gateway Boulevard and Gold Canyon Street, the outside westbound lane is closed for new curb ramp construction. Work is scheduled for Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.
• Cameron Road Utility Work – On State Route 58, there will be intermittent traffic breaks at Cameron Road so utility crews can pull wire over the highway. Work is scheduled for 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on Tuesday and drivers may experience brief delays.

Inyo County

• Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Project – Construction continues on the Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Expressway Project. Northbound and southbound traffic has moved to the new lanes of U.S. 395 and there are now three roads connecting these lanes to the old lanes of the highway and State Route 190: the State Route 190 Connector at the southern end of the project area, Crystal Geyser Road, and Lake Street in Cartago. Northbound drivers will encounter two traffic switches on the new lanes of U.S. 395 and traffic is limited to one lane in each direction through the northern half of the project area. Drivers are advised to follow the directions posted on highway signs and to stay on paved roads if mapping apps suggest a dirt road alternative. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph through the project area and 45 mph through the two traffic switches.
• Death Valley Flood Damage Repair – On State Route 190 in Death Valley National Park, crews continue to place gabions on the highway shoulder at two locations: roughly three miles east of Emigrant Campground and a quarter mile east of Zabriskie Point. There will be one-way traffic control at both locations and drivers may encounter 5-minute delays. Work is scheduled seven days a week from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Travelers are asked to be attentive to workers on the highway, slow for the cone zone, and move over whenever possible to give additional clearance. Be Safe and Be Work Zone Alert!
