Traffic Advisory for the Week of February 3, 2025

 

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of February 3 – February 7.

 

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

 

New Traffic Impacts

 

Eastern Kern County

 

·     Kern County Lighting Replacements Project – Crews will install light poles in the following locations:

o  State Route 58 at the westbound Boron Avenue off-ramp,

o  State Route 58 at the westbound Tehachapi Boulevard on-ramp,

o  State Route 58 at the eastbound California City Boulevard on-ramp, and

o  U.S. 395 at the northbound off-ramp to State Route 178 E

Work is scheduled overnight Monday through Friday from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am.

·     State Route 58 Water Line Boring – On State Route 58 between Exit 172 and just east of 30th Street near Mojave, the shoulders in both directions will close while crews bore into the ground to install a water line sleeve. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.

·     Ridgecrest Utility Work – On State Route 178 E between E. Coso Avenue and Ridgecrest Boulevard, the eastbound outside lane will close while utility crews work with fiber optic cable on Wednesday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

·     Ridgecrest Trenching – On State Route 178 W between Pony Street and Pinto Street, the eastbound shoulder will close while utility crews dig trenches Wednesday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

·     23/24 Pedestrian Safety Improvements Project – On State Route 178 E at Norma Street in Ridgecrest, crews will install pavement delineators and modify traffic signals and lighting systems. Work is scheduled overnight Wednesday through Friday from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am.

 

Inyo County

 

·     Lone Pine Utility Work – On U.S. 395 between Teya Road and Tim Holt Street, utility crews will cross wire over the road on Monday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be intermittent traffic breaks and drivers may experience brief delays.

 

Ongoing Traffic Impacts

 

Eastern Kern County

 

·     China Lake Water Main Replacement – On State Route 178 E between N. Brady Street and N. Victor Street, the westbound shoulder will close intermittently while crews replace signs Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

·     Ridgecrest Sidewalks – On State Route 178 E between South Gateway Boulevard and Gold Canyon Street, the outside westbound lane is closed for new curb ramp construction. Work is scheduled for Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

 

Inyo County

 

·     Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Project – Construction continues on the Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Expressway Project. Northbound drivers will encounter two traffic switches on the new lanes of U.S. 395 and traffic is limited to one lane in each direction through the northern half of the project area. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph through the project area and 45 mph through the two traffic switches.

·     Death Valley Flood Damage Repair – On State Route 190 in Death Valley National Park, crews will pause flood damage repair work on Saturday, February 1. Once work resumes, there will be one-way traffic control and drivers may encounter 5-minute delays.

 

 

Travelers are asked to be attentive to workers on the highway, slow for the cone zone, and move over whenever possible to give additional clearance. Be Safe and Be Work Zone Alert!
