Traffic Advisory for the Week of February 17, 2025

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of February 17 – February 21.

There will be no work on the state highway system on Monday due to Presidents’ Day.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

New Traffic Impacts

Eastern Kern County

• Weldon Pole Replacement – On State Route 178 W near Fay Ranch Road, utility crews will replace structures and poles on Sunday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
• Weldon Utility Work – On State Route 178 W near Fay Ranch Road, the westbound shoulder will close to allow utility crews to replace structures on Tuesday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
• Mojave Utility Work – On State Route 14 from Proteus Road to the northern junction with Business Route 58, there will be utility work on the southbound shoulder Wednesday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Inyo County

• Bishop Utility Work – On U.S. 395 between Sierra Street and U.S. 6, there will be intermittent traffic breaks to allow utility crews to repair infrastructure Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Drivers may experience 5-minute delays.
• Round Valley Crack-Seal Operation – On U.S. 395 from Sawmill Road to just north of Mill Creek Road north of Bishop, crews will perform a crack-seal operation on the northbound lanes Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

Ongoing Traffic Impacts

Eastern Kern County

• State Route 58 Water Line Boring – On State Route 58 between Exit 172 and just east of 30th Street near Mojave, the shoulders in both directions will close while crews continue to bore into the ground to install a water line sleeve. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.
• 23/24 Pedestrian Safety Improvements Project – On State Route 178 E at various locations between Ridgecrest Boulevard and Las Flores Avenue, crews will modify traffic signals and lighting systems. Work is scheduled overnight Monday through Thursday from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am. Drivers may experience brief delays.

Inyo County

• Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Project – Construction continues on the Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Expressway Project. Northbound drivers will encounter two traffic switches on the new lanes of U.S. 395 and traffic is limited to one lane in each direction through the northern half of the project area. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph through the project area and 45 mph through the two traffic switches.

Travelers are asked to be attentive to workers on the highway, slow for the cone zone, and move over whenever possible to give additional clearance. Be Safe and Be Work Zone Alert!
