EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts from these projects for the week of October 25– October 29, 2021.
Eastern Kern County:
· Rosamond-Mojave Rehabilitation Project – On State Route 14 between the towns of Rosamond and Mojave, crews are placing Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement on the northbound lanes from north to south. They have passed Backus Road and are working towards Dawn Road. During this phase of the project:
o The southbound on- and off-ramps for Dawn Road, Backus Road, and Silver Queen Road are open.
o The northbound on- and off-ramps for Dawn Road, Backus Road, and Silver Queen Road are closed until further notice. A temporary on-ramp for Silver Queen Road is available.
o The speed limit is 55 miles per hour through the construction zone.
o Work on this project is scheduled to conclude early in 2022.
· Walker Pass Guardrail Work – On State Route 178 W between 0.3 miles west of Jacks Creek Road and Walker Pass Campground, crews will be performing guardrail work Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.
· Johannesburg End Treatments – On U.S. Highway 395 between Sutter Street and Redrock-Randsburg Road on the north side of Johannesburg, crews will be performing guardrail work Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.
Inyo County:
· North Lake Utility Work – On State Route 168 W between Lake Sabrina and North Lake Road just west of Aspendell, crews will be performing utility work on Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. There will be one-way traffic control. Drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.
· Furnace Creek Thin Blanket – On State Route 190 in Death Valley National Park between Badwater Road and Dante’s View Road, crews are applying new roadway stripes and markings as construction nears its conclusion. Work is scheduled for Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, and on Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.
Projects on the state highway system with minimal or no delays:
Eastern Kern County:
· Coyote Trail Guardrail – On U.S. Highway 395 near Coyote Trail Avenue in Bradys, crews will be performing guardrail work Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
· Kern County End Treatments – Crews will be repairing guardrail Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm in the following locations:
o On State Route 14
o Between Water Canyon Road and Jawbone Canyon Road
o Between one mile south of Pine Tree Canyon Road and Pine Tree Canyon Road
o Between one mile south of Redrock-Randsburg Road and Redrock-Randsburg Road
o Between Athel Road and the junction with U.S. Highway 395
o Between Redrock-Randsburg Road and the southern boundary of Red Rock Canyon State Park
o Freeman Gulch between two miles south of the junction with State Route 178 W and the junction with State Route 178 W
o On U.S. Highway 395
o Between two miles south of Bowman Road and 0.75 miles north of Bowman Road.
o About three miles north of Johannesburg
· Clay Mine Road Utility Work – On State Route 58 between 0.5 miles east of Clay Mine Road and the eastbound Clay Mine Road ramp near North Edwards, crews will be performing utility work Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.
· Tehachapi Utility Work – On State Route 202 at Schout Road in Tehachapi, crews will be performing utility work Monday and Tuesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
· Ridgecrest Signal Work – On State Route 178 E between Ridgecrest Boulevard and Silver Ridge Street in Ridgecrest, crews will perform sidewalk work Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
· Mojave Sidewalks – On State Route 14 between the junction with Business Route 58 and Arroyo Avenue in the town of Mojave, crews will be performing sidewalk work Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
· Ridgecrest Utility Work – On State Route 178 E between Ward Avenue and Howell Street in Ridgecrest, crews will be performing utility work Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Mono County:
· North Sherwin Shoulders – On U.S. Highway 395, from 2.4 miles south of Lower Rock Creek Road to 0.3 miles north of Lower Rock Creek Road, crews are widening the shoulders, upgrading drainage, installing skip rumble strips, adding guardrail, and erecting retaining walls. Crews are laying Hot Mix Asphalt to widen shoulders. Traffic is confined to the inner-most lanes by K-Rail and delineators until further notice. There is a bicycle detour on Lower Rock Creek Road. · Crowley Lake Erosion Control – On U.S. Highway 395 at the southbound South Landing Road on-ramp near Crowley Lake and the northbound South Landing Road off-ramp, crews are performing guardrail and dike work. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm.
The Rosamond-Mojave Rehabilitation project and Furnace Creek Thin Blanket are funded by SB 1, which provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
