Caltrans road work

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts from these projects for the week of October 11 – October 15, 2021.
Eastern Kern County:
·         Rosamond-Mojave Rehabilitation Project – On State Route 14, all traffic has shifted to the newly constructed southbound lanes. Crews are laying down rebar, and will begin placing Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement on Monday. Crews will also begin work at 5:00 am starting on Monday because temperatures are cooler; they had been starting work at 2:30 am. During this phase of the project:
o  The southbound on- and off-ramps for Dawn Road, Backus Road, and Silver Queen Road have reopened.
o  The northbound on- and off-ramps for Dawn Road, Backus Road, and Silver Queen Road are closed until further notice. A temporary on-ramp for Silver Queen Road is available.
o  The speed limit is 55 miles per hour through the construction zone. For more information, email [email protected].
·        Walker Pass Guardrail Work – On State Route 178 W between 0.3 miles west of Jacks Creek Road and Walker Pass Campground, crews will be performing guardrail work Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.
·        Johannesburg End Treatments ­– On U.S. Highway 395 between Sutter Street and Redrock-Randsburg Road on the north side of Johannesburg, crews will be performing guardrail work Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.
Inyo County:
·        Furnace Creek Thin Blanket – On State Route 190 in Death Valley National Park between Badwater Road and Dante’s View Road, crews will perform a paving operation Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, and on Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.
·        Cartago Traffic Break – On U.S. Highway 395 from 0.5 miles south of Pine Street in Cartago to two miles north of Cartago, there may be traffic breaks to allow trucks to bring in material for utility work Monday through Wednesday from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. Drivers may experience delays of up to five minutes.
·        State Route 127 Crack Seal Operation – On State Route 127 five to seven miles south of Death Valley Junction, crews will be performing a crack seal operation Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience delays of up to 15 minutes.
Mono County:
·        203 Drainage Improvements – On State Route 203 in the city of Mammoth Lakes, crews will be performing drainage work between the Minaret substation and the pedestrian crossing signal by The Village shopping center, and from Mountain Boulevard to the crossover about one mile west of the junction with U.S. Highway 395. There will be one-way traffic control from the Minaret substation to The Village pedestrian crossing, and drivers may experience 15-minute delays. Work is scheduled for Monday through Thursday from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm, and on Friday from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Projects on the state highway system with minimal or no delays:
Eastern Kern County:
·        Coyote Trail Guardrail – On U.S. Highway 395 near Coyote Trail Avenue in Bradys, crews will be performing guardrail work Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
·        Clay Mine Road Utility Work – On State Route 58 between 1.2 miles west of Clay Mine Road and the eastbound Clay Mine Road ramp near North Edwards, crews will be performing utility work Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.
·        Clear Creek Bridge Work – On State Route 58 between about one mile west of Hart Flat Road and the Keene Scales west of Tehachapi, crews will be performing bridge work Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
·        Kern County End Treatments – On State Route 14, crews will be repairing guardrail Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm in the following locations:
o  Between Water Canyon Road and Jawbone Canyon Road
o  Between one mile south of Pine Tree Canyon Road and Pine Tree Canyon Road
o  Between one mile south of Redrock Randsburg Road and Redrock Randsburg Road
o  Between Athel Road and the junction with U.S. Highway 395
o  Between Redrock Randsburg Road and the southern boundary of Red Rock Canyon State Park
o  Freeman Gulch between two miles south of the junction with State Route 178 W and the junction with State Route 178 W
Crews will perform guardrail work on U.S. Highway 395 in the following locations:
o  Between two miles south of Bowman Road and 0.75 miles north of Bowman Road.
o  About three miles north of Johannesburg
·        Ridgecrest Sidewalks – On State Route 178 E between West Ridgecrest Boulevard and Silver Ridge Street in Ridgecrest, crews will be repairing sidewalks Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
·        Ridgecrest Signal Work – On State Route 178 E at the intersection of West Ridgecrest Boulevard and South China Lake Boulevard in Ridgecrest, crews will perform traffic signal work on Tuesday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
·        Ridgecrest Utility Work – On State Route 178 E between North Guam Avenue and Griffin Street in Ridgecrest, crews will be performing utility work on Thursday and Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Mono County:
·        North Sherwin Shoulders ­– On U.S. Highway 395, from 2.4 miles south of Lower Rock Creek Road to 0.3 miles north of Lower Rock Creek Road, crews are widening the shoulders, upgrading drainage, installing skip rumble strips, adding guardrail, and erecting retaining walls to prevent disturbance of surrounding vegetation. Some of the retaining walls have been completed, and crews are laying Hot Mix Asphalt north of Lower Rock Creek Road. Traffic is confined to the inner-most lanes by K-Rail and delineators until further notice. There is a bicycle detour on Lower Rock Creek Road. ·        Crowley Lake Erosion Control – On U.S. Highway 395 from 0.3 miles south of ­the South Landing Road exit near Crowley Lake to the South Landing Road exit, and on the northbound South Landing Road exit, crews will perform guardrail and dike work on both ramps. Work is scheduled for Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm.
·        Mammoth Lakes Bus Shelter Construction – On State Route 203 between Manzanita Road and Center Street in the town of Mammoth Lakes, crews will be constructing a bus shelter Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
·        Mono County Tree Work – On U.S. Highway 395 between the junction with State Route 203 and the south junction with State Route 158 (June Lake Loop), crews will be performing tree work Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
·        Mono Chain-up Areas – On U.S. Highway 395 just south of State Route 270/Bodie Road, crews will be performing shoulder work Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, and on Friday from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm.
The Rosamond-Mojave Rehabilitation project and Furnace Creek Thin Blanket are funded by SB 1, which provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
