inyo_courthouse1.jpgThe case of Dawndee and Kenneth Rossy continues through court with no final resolution. Most recently, the pair went before Judge Dean Stout to ask for a modification of terms and conditions of bail. They face charges that include alleged embezzlement of $1.5 million from the Inyo County Welfare Department.

The District Attorney’s complaint against former Welfare Supervisor Dawndee Rossy and her husband Kenneth alleges a scheme that the pair used stolen identities to file welfare claims. The complaint says that they used Electronic Benefit Transfer Cards to get welfare benefits in the form of cash.

In a hearing last week, the defense filed a motion to modify the terms and conditions of bail. Assistant District Attorney Joel Samuels said that Kenneth Rossy wanted to take a job in Nevada, but his bail terms don’t allow that. Judge Stout denied the motion.

When the couple originally posted bail, they were released with GPS monitoring of their whereabouts. The Rossys were arrested in April. Their case is on the court calendar for a status conference September 24th.

Assistant DA Samuels also said there may be other dates scheduled since there may be “an amended complaint.” At this time, Samuels declined to discuss the details of what he may file.
