Mammoth Unified School District Superintendent Lois Klein contacted parents with the following message Wednesday night:

This is Mrs. Klein, I am contacting you (Wednesday) evening to let you know that a student at Mammoth Middle School reportedly posted to a social media site a threat to the Middle School campus to take place (Thursday).

First, I want you to know that there have been no incidences. Dr. Annie Rinaldi, the Middle School Principal and law enforcement went to the student’s home (Wednesday) and met with the student and the parents. After their investigation, they are confident that the threat was meant as a hoax.

As you know, school is closed (Thursday) due to the anticipated storm. The decision to close schools tomorrow is completely unrelated to this incident, having been made in consultation with weather reports prior to the social media post.

The post was shared with many students, so you, too, may have heard about it. This message is intended to assure you that I am aware of the situation and that the principal and local law enforcement were contacted and became involved immediately. All appropriate disciplinary options are being considered as we move forward.

A parent meeting regarding school safety and the recent incidents is planned for Wednesday, January 23rd at 6:30 pm in the High School MPR.

I strongly encourage all parents to regularly monitor their child’s social media accounts.
