Temporary fire hire applications open now until November 6

BISHOP, Calif., October 25, 2024 — As part of a region-wide hiring effort, Inyo National Forest is hiring dozens of entry-level positions for temporary, seasonal wildland fire, closing November 6 at 9:00 p.m. pacific standard time on USA Jobs.

The Pacific Southwest Region is looking for a committed, hardworking, highly skilled workforce to suppress wildfires and work in fuels management on National Forests located throughout California. The fire and aviation management program is very rewarding and requires talented people working safely as part of a team in a variety of specialized positions.

Timeline

October 24, 2024 ─ Announcements open. Applicants encouraged to apply for multiple locations (only where they would accept a position if offered) or location negotiable. Choosing location negotiable will open the door for working at multiple duty locations throughout California.

November 6, 2024 ─ Application deadline, 9:59 Pacific standard time.

December 18, 2024 – January 10, 2025 ─ Interest and reference checks will occur. Ensure your references are notified of this and they are available at the email address provided on your application.

January 13 – January 29, 2025 ─ Selections. Representatives from each forest will make recommendations for hiring. Selections will be notified by phone. Those not selected should check their USAJOBS account for status updates. During the selection week, candidates will be given 4 hours to respond to voicemails or emails from the recommending officials.

April 20, 2025 ─First possible effective date.
