When our county supervisors meet Tuesday in their respective county seats, they will both continue to talk labor negotiations in closed session. Inyo will deal with mosquitoes and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Mono will host a presentation by Cougar Gold about mining exploration in the Bodie area.

inyosups1-4-11First Inyo. The board will host a workshop on weed management and on the mosquito abatement program. Mosquito season lies squarely ahead in the next four months. The board will also examine and provide direction on a proposed agenda for the next Inyo-LA Standing Committee meeting, February 24th in Los Angeles.

The Standing Committee rarely takes action. The agenda calls for action on “consideration of standing committee protocols.” The committee may actually take action on something else. The agenda calls for resolution of “the disagreement of the Technical Group on the Lower Owens River computer modeling.”

Other agenda highlights – updates on the struggle to come up with rules to govern groundwater pumping, an update on the black rock area, on land releases and on the study to pump water at the Owens Dry lake.

While Inyo spins its wheels on water, Mono will grapple with a gold mine issue. Around 1pm Tuesday, representatives of mono_courthouse_10-08cougar Gold will give a presentation to the Mono Supervisors on what’s called the Paramount project in the Bodie Wilderness Study Area. The board’s agenda says the presentation will include an overview of Cougar Gold’s work to date and the company’s potential future plans that are subject to legislative action on the Bodie Wilderness Study Area. Past discussions have suggested lifting the Wilderness Study Area to make gold exploration easier.

Environmental groups continue to oppose the plans of Cougar Gold which will host a town hall meeting at Bridgeport Memorial Hall at 5pm.
