Supervisor Roeser to Host Town Hall

Big Pine, CA — Inyo County District 4 Supervisor Jennifer Roeser invites community members to a public

meeting on Monday, May 12 at 6 p.m. at the Big Pine Town Hall, located at 150 Dewey Street. This important gathering will provide updates on the upcoming Fish Springs Pavement Project and address wildlife-related issues.
Representatives from Caltrans and the project’s contractor, Road and Highway Builders, LLC of Sparks, NV, will be present to deliver a comprehensive presentation and answer questions from the public.

The project entails pavement rehabilitation, curb ramp reconstruction, upgraded signage, guardrails, and striping along U.S. 395 from 0.2 miles north of Elna Road to State Route 168 East at the north edge of Big Pine. In response to feedback from the public, Caltrans will also focus on pedestrian safety measures, such as a rapid-flashing pedestrian beacons and refuge islands at Walnut Street and Crocker Avenue and “bulb-outs” at Crocker Avenue, Blake Street, and Bartell Road. Bulb-outs are sidewalk extensions at intersections or mid-block that push the curb out into the street, shortening the crossing distance for pedestrians and slowing down vehicle traffic. The idea is to help calm traffic by narrowing the roadway and improving visibility between drivers and pedestrians.

Construction is slated to begin in early summer, with a price tag of $28.8 million.

Supervisor Roeser’s meeting will also include a discussion on wildlife issues – particularly as they intersect with private property – and what role the County can play in offering services to address those issues. Inyo-Mono Agricultural Commissioner Nate Reade and a representative of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.
