Major delivery of snow – from 3 feet in June Lake to 5 inches in Independence. Mammoth Lakes saw about 10 inches. Our forecaster, Dennis Mattinson, described the storm as “leisurely” as it blew in, left a gorgeous, white cover and blew out.

For Southern Inyo, it was a rare winter wonderland day with about 5 inches of snow coating tree limbs and bushes, cars and outdoor fountains. It was a fun morning for those who haven’t seen snow in their front yards for more than a year.

The snowfall blanketed the valley, Sierra and Inyo mountains, by late morning the going was easy. Much more snow lies ahead in the forecast. Bob will have that later in the news.

At Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, the Ski Patrol talked about National Safety Week at ski areas. They worked on a simulated avalanche rescue with dog, King and MMSA talked to Greg Schmidt, Hill Safety Manager about good conduct on the slopes. Schmidt said the Skier below you always has the right of way. He urged skiers to consider safety, to focus on awareness while on the slopes and to call on the Ski Patrol if they need any kind of help.
