Shiny and New, Tried and True in Goldfield
Change is constant. New things pop up, old traditions stick around, and sometimes the best places are the ones that manage to balance both. That’s exactly what you’ll find in Goldfield these days—a small town that’s slowly growing while still holding on to the charm that makes it special.
One of the newest additions in town is the Goldfield Truck Stop, which recently had a soft opening and will soon be fully operational. The building is shiny, modern, and a welcome sight for travelers coming through the historic mining town. During a recent visit, Oscar—the son of the owner—was polite and helpful, making the stop feel welcoming right away.
You might assume a convenience store like that would have higher prices, but that wasn’t the case at all. In fact, I ended up saving quite a bit of money. I needed a fog light for my vehicle, and the automotive stores wanted about $30 for it. At the Goldfield Truck Stop, I picked it up for just $14. That’s a pleasant surprise you don’t expect at a truck stop.
But as nice as the shiny and new can be, there’s something comforting about the tried and true places that never change. Whenever I’m in town, my morning usually starts at Dinky’s Diner. Their eggs, potatoes, and bacon are always just right, and the atmosphere feels like stepping into a place where everyone knows each other.
Behind the grill is Kristina Langford, faithfully cooking breakfast and lunch for locals and visitors alike. Familiar faces fill the booths, while tourists passing through town wander in to experience a classic small-town diner. It’s the kind of place where conversations happen easily and coffee cups never stay empty for long.
My grandson, DJ “Mav Mav,” especially loves stopping there. For him, it’s all about the pancakes—and of course the warm hug he always gets from Kristina.
That’s the beauty of Goldfield. You can enjoy the new things coming to town, like the truck stop, while still appreciating the places that have been serving the community for years.
If you’re looking for something a little different to do on a weekend, a trip to Goldfield might be just the ticket. Check out the shiny and new—but don’t forget the tried and true. In a town like this, both are worth the visit.
