MONO COURTHOUSEEmployment contracts, closed sessions and internet service.  The Boards of Supervisors in Inyo and Mono Counties planned to meet today in Independence and Mammoth Lakes on these and other topics.

First Mono.  In a closed session, legal counsel will talk to the Supervisors about the potential bankruptcy of the Town of Mammoth Lakes.  Mono County would be party to the bankruptcy as a creditor.  Mono County provides services to the Town – law enforcement dispatch services, animal shelter and more.

The Mono Board will consider a resolution for a temporary budget for next fiscal year of $56,909,400. The Board will consider a 2-year employment contract for County Administrator James Arkens.  The cost is approximately $228,083 of which $171,216 is salary, $33,203 is the employer portion of PERS, and $23,664 is the cost of the benefits.  The Board will also look at an anti-graffiti ordinance.

The Mono Board may send a letter of support to the Public Utility Commision about Verizon providing internet service to Crowley Lake and Swall Meadows, as ordered, by the end of the year.  The Board may ask to include upgraded services generally and to include Paradise in the courthousenew service area.  The Board meeting was scheduled for the boardroom in Mammoth Lakes.

In Inyo County, Supervisor Marty Fortney planned to ask the Board to appoint Ross Corner as the Fourth District Planning Commissioner to complete an unexpired term that ends January 4, 2013.

The Board will also consider three agreements with attorney Greg James for the next year.  One agreement says James would provide water and environmental attorney services to the Water Department for $155 per hour up to $60,000.  The second contract would see James providing legal services on Yucca Mountain matters for $185 per hour up to $25,000.  The third contract says James would provide water and environmental attorney services to the County Administrator for $155 per hour up to $30,000.

The Board meeting was set to start at 9am in the Supervisors Boardroom in Independence.
