[UPDATE] (Press Release from State of California Department of Transportation, District 9)

State Route 190 between State Highway 395 and the junction with State Route 136, has re-opened without restrictions to the traveling public.

State Route 190 was closed due to flooding between US Highway 395 and the junctions of State Route 136/190. At approximately 11:00 pm on August 1, 2011 this section of State Route 190 was closed due to major flooding from an isolated thunder storm.

The heavy rains caused mud and debris to cover the roadway and fill drainage channels. There was no loss of pavement, but there are large amounts of material to be removed from the travel way.

Caltrans Maintenance Crews have been on scene since the closure and currently the estimated time of re-opening the highway is scheduled for 8 pm on August 3, 2011. Until SR 190 is re-opened travelers are advised to use SR 136 as an alternate route between US Hwy 395 and SR 190 leading to and from Death Valley.

Remember to reduce your speeds when approaching work zones, and watch for personnel and equipment.
