The Mono County Sheriff Search and Rescue (SAR) Team was called out Tuesday August 2, 2011, to aid an ill backpacker. A 45 year-old leader of a boy scout group from Flagstaff, AZ became severely ill several nights into a backpacking trip into the Thousand Island area. He attempted to hike out with assistance from his group, but eventually needed aid. The SAR team and Mono County paramedics were dispatched, and the patient was transported 2.4 miles along the High Trail (PCT) by wheeled litter to the Agnew Meadows trailhead, arriving after 10 pm. The patient was then taken to Mammoth Hospital by Mono County Paramedics.
