No Avalanche on Hwy 395; Chain Controls Causing Truck Turnarounds
Mono County, CA — Rumors have been circulating that Highway 395 between Lee Vining and Mono City was closed due to an avalanche, with trucks being turned away. Authorities confirm that there is no avalanche in the area.
The Bishop Branch of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) verified that trucks and other vehicles without chains are being turned around at both Lee Vining and Mono City. Chain controls are in effect due to winter weather conditions, which can make this stretch of highway slippery and hazardous.
Motorists are urged to carry chains, obey chain control requirements, and drive cautiously. Attempting to bypass chain requirements is not only unsafe but can also result in fines and accidents.
For the latest road conditions, travelers can check the Caltrans website or contact the Bishop CHP.
