The Sunset Slager Foundation Awards $7,350 to the Rotary Club of Bishop Eastern Sierra Outdoors Youth Program

Rotarian Todd Vogel learned recently that his request for $7,350 to fully fund the 2016 Eastern Sierra Youth Outdoor Program in June has been granted.

The generous donation will help provide a thoughtful, innovative and high quality outdoor education curriculum to at least 25 youth between the ages of 12 and 17 from the Eastern Sierra, repeating the hugely successful inaugural program of 2015.

This unique and exciting opportunity will take place from June 25th though June 29th and applications are being taken now. You can read more information and download an application form at Eastsidesports.com/eastside/esyouthoutdoors.com.

At the beginning of the Rotary year on July 1, 2015, the Rotary Club of Bishop set a goal of maximizing the money it could put into the community.

Partnering with Sunrise Rotary and the Methodist Church, both clubs donated $9,000 to help replace the old, unreliable range and ovens at the Methodist Church soup kitchen.

In addition to the scholarships both clubs award to graduating high school students in June they have 2 other grants that community members can apply for to enhance their education.

A $3,500 scholarship is available for study towards a BA at a number of colleges and trade schools. There is no age limit for this grant and it could equally be awarded to a mother wanting to continue studies after a family as a graduating high school or Cerro Coso college student.

Somewhere in this community, we just know there is also someone with their heart set on studying for a Master degree at an overseas university. There is no age restriction on this $33,000 grant either, so if you want to make a difference in the global arena, contact us so we can outline the qualifications and application process of becoming a Rotary Scholar.

The deadline for applications is April 15th 2016. Call Rotary Club of Bishop President, Sue Lyndes for more information at: 760-920-1271.

Yours in service,

The Rotary Clubs of Bishop
