High winds that caused the closure of US Highway 395 today forced the postponements of high-school athletic contests.

The Bishop Union High School football teams were scheduled to play at Vasquez of Acton tonight, but BUHS Athletic Director Stacy Van Nest said the buses carrying the Broncos athletes could not make it through the road closures at the right times today.

The non-league games versus Vasquez will be Saturday, October 21 at 4:30 for the junior varsity and and 7:30 for the varsity.

Van Nest said, “Kudos to players, parents, coaches, and Vasquez for doing whatever it takes to get this game in.”

Also, the Mammoth High School volleyball teams were scheduled to host Vasquez today, but the Vasquez buses were also turned back due to the US 395 closure.

Those final Desert Mountain League matches are now re-scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 24.

The Husky varsity and JV volleyball teams are both trying for undefeated DML season championships.
