Rebecca Carr Wong Selected as Site Manager for
Devils Postpile National Monument
Yosemite National Park Superintendent Cicely Muldoon announces Rebecca Carr Wong has been selected as the Site Manager for Devils Postpile National Monument. As Site Manager, Wong will manage park operations for Devils Postpile National Monument and will serve on the Yosemite Leadership Team. She will assume her duties in mid October 2021.
“Rebecca brings an outstanding track record of forging strong community relationships and strengthening ties to tribal, state, and federal partners. She brings a wealth of experience leading national monuments, working across agency boundaries, and building networks of partner organizations,” said Superintendent Muldoon. “Rebecca is the perfect fit to lead Devils Postpile National Monument.”
“I am excited and honored to return to the National Park Service after working for the Bureau of Land Management and US Forest Service for the past several years. Devils Postpile is an incredible geologic resource, and I am excited to help people gain a deeper appreciation for the natural and cultural wonders found not only at Devils Postpile but also in the surrounding Ansel Adams Wilderness,” stated Wong. “It is an honor to be selected for the position of Site Manager and I look forward to building strong relationships with the staff at Devils Postpile.”
Wong brings more than 20 years of public lands experience to her new post, most recently serving as the first Monument Manager for Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument, located near Napa County, California. At Berryessa, she has been responsible for managing lands under both the Bureau of Land Management and US Forest Service. Wong also served as the first Monument Manager for the Sand to Snow National Monument, located near Palm Springs, California. She has worked on the Stanislaus National Forest, San Bernardino National Forest, and in the Bureau of Land Management Field Office in Redding. Previous National Park Service experience includes postings at Grand Canyon National Park, Mesa Verde National Park, and Casa Grande Ruins National Monument.
A native of Connecticut, Wong and her husband are excited to relocate to the Eastern Sierra Nevada region. Wong earned her a BA in Anthropology and Photography from the University of Delaware in 1994. She earned her MS in Historic Preservation with an emphasis in Architectural Conservation from the University of Pennsylvania in 2002. Wong’s extensive knowledge of working with multiple federal lands agencies and her expertise in park planning, resources management, visitor experience and historic preservation make her uniquely suited to lead Devils Postpile National Monument.
