Multiple assaults alleged in Mammoth Lakes have led to the arrest of professional surfer Christopher Ward. Police report that at about 2:00 in the morning on Tuesday, officers responded to a Mammoth bar. According to Sgt. Paul Dostie, witnesses said that Ward had threatened one woman with a chunk of ice. Three other women tried to stop the suspect, when Ward allegedly started to beat them with his fists, according to Dostie.

The three women were taken to Mammoth Hospital and released, police say. Dostie explained that officers found Ward lying on the ground outside of the bar, apparently beaten by additional unknown male suspects. Dostie reports that Ward was also taken to the hospital, under arrest for assault charges.
