At this time, campfires remain allowed only in designated, developed recreation sites. Visitors camping anywhere else (dispersed camping or wilderness backpacking) may use a portable stove or lantern using gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel, with a valid California Campfire permit.
- The season for collecting fuelwood ends on October 31, however an extension is being planned – get your permit now if you haven’t already: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/inyo/passes-permits/?cid=fseprd541256
