INYO NATIONAL FOREST
BUTTERMILK ROADS AND AREA CLOSURE
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a) and (b), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Inyo National Forest. This Order is effective from August 25, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., through August 30, 2024, at 9:00 am.
1. Being on any of the following National Forest System Roads:
a. Forest Road 7S01 (Buttermilk Road), from a point 3.1 miles west of Highway 168 to its junction with 7S01F;
b. Forest Road 7S01F in its entirety;
c. Forest Road 7S04 from its junction with Forest Road 7S01 for 825 feet to the north; and
d. Forest Road 7S04B in its entirety,
as shown on Exhibit A. 36 C.F.R. § 261.54(e).
2. Going into or being upon any National Forest System lands within 200 feet on either side of the closed portions of the National Forest System Roads listed in Prohibition 1 above, or within 200 feet of the main parking areas adjacent to or surrounding the restrooms at Buttermilk Proper, as shown on Exhibit A. 36 C.F.R. § 261.53(e).
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
1. Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
3. Employees of Inyo County and the LA Department of Water and Power while acting within the scope of their employment.
This prohibition is in addition to the general prohibitions contained in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A. A violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
