Personal Use Fuelwood Season Extended

The Inyo National Forest announces that personal use fuelwood season has been extended throughout November 15, weather permitting.

Fuelwood collection typically ends at the end of October to reduce resource damage that can occur from wet conditions caused by typical fall storms. Due to unseasonably warm and dry conditions, the forest is extending fuelwood collection as conditions remain favorable.

Previously obtained fuelwood permits that haven’t been used are still valid or residents may purchase additional tags (as long as they don’t exceed the household limit). Fuelwood permits may be obtained at the following locations:

• Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center in Mammoth Lakes (760-924-5500), seven days a week, from 9:00 am to noon and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
• White Mountain Ranger Station in Bishop (760-873-2500), Monday- Friday, from 9:00 am to noon and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Please call ahead to confirm that staffing is available to sell permits.

Maps showing areas open to cutting are available with a purchased fuelwood permit. Copies of fuelwood maps are available on Avenza. Fuelwood permits are still $15 per cord with a two cord minimum.

Current locations to consider for collection include the Sherwin Creek Road tank area; where SCE and Caltrans are leaving hazard trees removed from their corridors; Reversed Creek, and north of Northshore Drive in June Lake (across from the entrance to Oh Ridge Campground); where wood from fuels reduction has been bucked into rounds. All other areas on the map will continue to be open.
