Permanent firefighting jobs open April 14-24
BISHOP, Calif., April 18, 2025 — As part of a nation-wide hiring effort, Inyo National Forest is hiring 26 permanent wildland firefighter and support positions. The application period is open from April 14-24, 2025. Positions include dispatchers, fire engine and equipment operators, fire management officers and planners, fire prevention specialists, forestry aids and techs, handcrew, hotshot and helitack members, prescribed fire and fuels specialists, and more.

If you desire to work on the Inyo National Forest, while applying for these jobs be sure to filter for and select the following locations:
Lone Pine, Bishop, Mammoth Lakes, Lee Vining and Independence.
By early May, hiring officials plan to submit selections for GS-11 positions and above. During the second half of May and into June, recommendations and selections will occur for the remaining positions, with and estimated onboarding date of July 27, 2025.
Multiple positions will be filled using the new Wildland Fire Management series, with compensation based on the new 2025 Wildland Firefighters Locality Pay Tables. Reimbursement of relocation expenses may be authorized at the discretion of management in accordance with agency policy. Applications will be accepted from any U.S. citizen or national who is at least 18 years of age. Direct Hire Authority will be used to fill the available wildland firefighter positions and veterans’ preference does not apply to these vacancies.
