Panorama Dome Pile Burning Continues

Bishop, California, February 5, 2026— The weakening high pressure has made conditions ideal to continue pile burning in the Panorama Dome area near Mammoth Lakes. Starting February 6, Inyo National Forest employees and contractors will take advantage of the weather window to complete this fuels reduction project that is adjacent to wildland urban interface communities.

The Panorama Dome project consists of 48 acres of piles. Crews will burn these piles over the next few weeks as weather and smoke conditions allow. The closure order associated with the project is in place for public safety. (see attached order and map)

Fire managers are working with the Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District and the National Weather Service to minimize smoke impacts to local communities. Smoke will be visible from Mammoth Lakes, Highway 395, Highway 203, and Mammoth Mountain Ski Area.
