Sierra Wave Surprised by Mailpoet Backup
As some of you may already know, we initially believed our email subscriber list was lost due to a server backup issue caused by a third party. Consequently, we requested everyone to sign up again. However, unbeknownst to us, our newsletter service provider had backed up our email list. Not only did we recover thousands of email addresses, but we also discovered that we’ve entered a higher tier due to exceeding our email quota, which necessitates an increase in our subscription costs.

Jury Duty Announcement
CPUC Rejects AT&T’s Request to Withdraw as Carrier of Last Resort; Opens New Rulemaking Process
Currently, AT&T is the designated COLR in many parts of the state and is the largest COLR in California. Where AT&T is the default telephone service provider means that the company must provide telephone service over any technology, such as copper, fiber, cable, VoIP, or wireless, to any potential customer in that service territory. AT&T proposed to withdraw as the COLR without a new carrier being designated as a COLR.
Following review of AT&T’s request, which received over 5,000 public comments and for which the CPUC held eight Public Forums drawing more than 5,800 attendees, the CPUC today denied AT&T’s request.

Mono County Childcare Quality Scores Continue to Climb
MONO COUNTY, CA (June 19, 2024) – Each year, First 5 Mono County (First 5 Mono) and the Mono County Office of Education work with childcare and education sites within Mono and Alpine Counties to support childcare quality through the Childcare Quality System (System). This System is a comprehensive approach to assess, improve, and communicate the level of quality in early care and education programs. Participating State Preschool sites can earn ratings (1-5). State funders no longer fund ratings for other sites, but since ratings are valid for 5 years, some other sites’ ratings remain valid. This year, three Mono County sites are rated at the System’s highest rating (5: Highest Quality), and three sites are rated at the System’s second highest rating (4: Exceeding Quality)!

Crystal Geyser Hosts Celebration to Honor Volunteer Firefighters
On Wednesday, June 12, Crystal Geyser held a heartfelt celebration at its Olancha water bottling plant to honor the heroic volunteer firefighters who safeguarded both the facility and the community during the Cartago Fire earlier this year. The event underscored the critical role of volunteer fire departments in protecting lives and property.
Volunteer firefighters from Olancha Cartago Volunteer Fire Department (VFD), Bishop VFD, Lone Pine VFD, and Independence VFD were instrumental in containing the fire that broke out in Cartago on the night of April 3. Their swift action prevented significant damage, saving the Crystal Geyser Plant from major destruction and ensuring that its 120-plus employees would have jobs to return to.
