Orihuela Honored for Outstanding Leadership by National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development
LAS VEGAS – Steven Orihuela, candidate for Inyo County District 3 Supervisor, who also serves on the Bishop Paiute Tribal Council, was recognized on Tuesday, March 24th as an honoree for “Native American 40 Under 40” leaders chosen for outstanding service and community contributions. The prestigious awards were presented at Caesar’s Palace Hotel during the 2026 Reservation Economic Summit with more than 5,000 attendees.
Orihuela, a devoted family man with three children, holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Arizona, and has a decade of experience in business and economic development in government and private sectors.
“This honor is personal. It represents where I come from and who I serve. This honor reflects the people and community that shaped me,” said Orihuela, who also served as Bishop Paiute Chairman. “I’m grateful for the recognition that is focused on what matters most, our families and community. I’m committed to putting people first and building a stronger future for all of our families.”
Orihuela was nominated by the Tribal Leadership Council for his work over 10 years helping to create jobs, foster economic development, and build revenue-generating businesses like the Tribe’s gas stations, casino, and new hotel that opens in Summer 2026. Orihuela serves on the board of directors for the Tribal Leadership Council and was appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom to serve on the Tri-County Fair Board.
Nominated by their peers, 40 Under 40 honorees exemplify leadership, initiative and dedication that fostered significant contributions to their professions and communities.

Steven and his wife, Kristian, are actively involved in youth activities, faith-based initiatives, saddle club, sports, and civic organizations that serve the community.
“Throughout Steven Orihuela’s tenure as a Bishop Tribal Councilman and Owens Valley Indian Water Commissioner, he has demonstrated strong, community-centered leadership focused on protecting vital natural resources important to all our communities,” said Teri Red Owl, executive director of the Owens Valley Indian Water Commission. “Steven has championed water rights, supported land return efforts, and led stewardship initiatives that honor both people and place, He leads with integrity, making him a strong and trusted candidate for County Supervisor.”

Formed in 2023, the Tribal Leadership Council is not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that proudly supports Tribal leaders and executives with continuing education and tools to better their organizations. The primary focus of the TLC is empowering leadership and promoting economic growth and prosperity for Tribal communities.
